Just plain “THANKFUL”

that is what I am today.  As I sit here in my home, on my laptop, and watching the news on my TV and sipping coffee from one of my favorite cups, I realize how blessed and fortunate I am.

Knowing I have a home and a place to shelter from this hurricane that is rolling in, I am reminded that there are people that don’t have that luxury today.

So today I just want to thank God and keep in mind all that I have is his and I’m grateful.

where I am not where I could be

emo_flowers1_thankfulThursday
I don’t know about you, but for me, I’m feeling extremely thankful  that I am where I am, and not where I could be.  Let me explain.

Over the last several weeks, our pastor at church has been talking about “getting what we deserve”.  How thankful I am  that our Lord shows us mercy and give us grace and doesn’t give us what we deserve.  It makes me realize if I got what I deserve, I definitely would not be where I am today.

How bout you?

“A man can no more take in a supply of grace for the future than he can eat enough today to last him for the next 6 months, nor can he inhale sufficient air into his lungs with one breath to sustain life for a week to come. We are permitted to draw upon God's store of grace from day to day as we need it.” - D. L. Moody See: Deut 33:25; Psa 46:1; Heb 4:16

Thanks to Iris @ Grace Alone for hosting this party.  Come join us and share what you are thankful for.

90.Frozen yogurt on a hot summer evening.  mmmm, yum!   (Twice in the last week)

I am so excited, because I finally found her book last week and I purchased it.  WOW!  It is beautiful written, she has such a way with words and the imagery that she conveys is mind boggling to me.  Not sure how she does it, but her talent for writing is impressive to say the least.  Definitely a God-given talent.  I can only digest so much at a given time, so I am reading this book slowly and with intention.  I am trying to savor the nuggets of wisdom written on the pages.

Multitudes on Mondays 5/16/11

H
appy Monday ya’ll.

It is so good to be back.  Last week, I was under the weather and not feeling all that great.  So it feels wonderful to be up and around doing all my regular Monday chores. Today they don’t feel like chores, they feel like sweet blessings.  After having several days of not feeling well {downright blah} and having no energy…and not being productive an any way, I can’t tell you how good it feels to feel like my old self again and back on track.

On a different note, I have been noticing that a lot of women have been having a lot of trouble with blogger lately, apparently blogger has been having some issues.  Sooooooo I am contemplating moving my blog over to wordpress.  I thought about doing this when I made the last little change, but didn’t but now I’m kinda rethinking my situation.   But it got me to wondering about which platform you all use?  Blogger or  Wordpress.  If you are on Blogger with all the problems there, will you be moving?  Or are you going to stay.  Would love to hear what ya’ll have to say.

I hope your blessed this beautiful Monday.

Multitudes on Monday 5/9/11

H
appy Monday ya’ll.

I hope everyone had a beautiful weekend and a very happy Mother’s Day.  I know that I did.  Saturday was spent catching up on things around here and spending time with my hubby.  We took a long nice walk and even though it was for exercise, I always enjoy that time spent with him.  Saturday kinda flew by in a blur.  On Sunday we headed into church for early service.  I enjoyed the message so much, as our pastor spoke about Mary.  Jesus’  mother, and how she was always in the background of Jesus’ life and HIS ministry and the support she must’ve been for him, just knowing mom was there.

I try to imagine how Mary must have felt having Jesus as her son.  For me, I know I would have been prideful, even though pride is sin, I wouldn’t be able to contain myself, because I am proud of my own children.  How much more so to be proud of Jesus.

My children took me to dinner last night, for me, spending time with these young adults is such a blessing and a treat.  I really do cherish the time spent with them, makes me yearn for the days when they were home.  Brings forth lots of heartwarming and enduring thoughts of years past.  Time certainly flies and our children grow up so fast.

Old adages I have heard all my life come rushing to my mind:

They aren’t this age long, enjoy them while they are at home

They’ll be gone before you know it.
Don’t rush it, enjoy them
You know where they are now
Someday you are going to miss this

digital frame
Did you hear these types of things too?  So much truth is spoken in those words, I guess that is why they are still being spoken to mother’s everywhere, everyday.

My children gave me a gift that will help me remember all those times of their youth and I don’t think I have ever enjoyed getting a gift more than the one they gave me last night. They presented me with a digital frame.  I can’t wait to get it loaded up with pictures.  Can you guess what I will be working on today?

Let me close my this post by sharing my “One Thousand Gifts” portion.

Normal days at home

L
ately there seems to way to much going on.  Whether it is things to do, to get marked off the infamous “errand list” or places to go for those in need. Many of my family and friends are going through some difficult and painful times, which has added some extra activity.  And top of all that, I have much to do with thinking about “our future move”…to where, who knows…. but I know I have a itch to move on and get settled wherever God decides to plant us.

For me, there really doesn’t look like a lot of slow down time for me in the future.  So for me, today I am thankful for just a normal day at home, just taking care of my home.

Now that I have my gratitude list done, I will catch you up on the last several days. Somewhere around the middle of the week, my week took on a unexpected turn, instead of having my days all planned and organized I just kinda fell apart.  Not in a bad way, I just couldn’t stay focused.  I HATE when I do that, because I feel like I am wasting time and the wheels are turning but I’m not getting anywhere.

the-royal-wedding
On Friday, I ended up getting up at 3:00 AM to watch all the “Royal Wedding” hoopla before the main event…so my Friday was spent being a couch potato. Literally, I didn’t get up except for potty breaks, drinks and some lunch.   You don’t know how happy I was  that the weather was cool and rainy because now I have less guilt about just being lazy.  But we all need days weeks like  that right?  After spending all day watching BBCAmerica, I spent the rest of the evening looking up and searching out more wedding frills like what did the cake look like, Kate’s evening dress…which by the way I loved it too.  I even got hubby hooked and he was looking things up and sharing his finds with me.

In the mid/late 80’s I lived in England for three years, in the Yorkshire Dales about 4 hours from London.  While living there , I became quite enambered with the royal family and the British Monarchy.  (Doesn’t hurt that I’m a history buff"). The Monarchy fascinated me, and still does.  So Friday was a marathon day, just as it was when Diana died.

Needless to say after getting nothing accomplished Wed-Friday, I had to kick things into high gear around here on Saturday.  Fortunately hubby was on board, so together we tackled lots of little things that we had been putting off and finished. I LOVE IT when that happens.  Plus I got the entire house vacuumed and dusted, changed out seasonal clothes, hubby washed two vehicles, also got in a nice long walk.

Woke up yesterday morning, wasn’t feeling all that great.  My back was really giving me fits, think it was all the bending and stooping I had done on Saturday, anyhow, it caused us not to make it to church.  Very disappointed we didn’t make it, but I knew I would have difficulty sitting on the hard pews…So I elected to stay home and take a hot bath, of course, hubby didn’t want to waste our day at home so together we tackled sorting through boxes that are still packed from our recent move in December.  Can you say glutton for punishment?

The little community where we are living is having a yard sale towards the end of May and we are debating on clearing out some more of our belongings.  We really need to, it’s simply amazing me and boggles my mind how much junk treasures one acquires.  Most likely will be sifting through boxes a day at a time, and maybe can come up with some things to sell.

Gonna get going for now, can’t afford another week like last week…so need to start on my Monday.  How bout you?  What ya got going on today?

1 John 5:14-15“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

Thankful Thursday 4/21/11

G
ood Morning friends, this week as I have been thinking about what I am thankful for I am jesus on the crossreminded that this is Easter and Holy week. And have much to be thankful for.  Jesus going to the cross for my sins….is there any greater love.  Thank you, God!

And as much as I am thankful to God for sending us his son, Jesus, and I am….. I’m also thankful for some of the traditions that go along with it.

The one that I am so giddy over this week is “Our Family Easter Meal”.  Mainly because it is a time for our family to come together and share a meal. And make more memories. Which is a rarity these days, unfortunately….so I have been combing through recipes books, and blogs looking for a new menu item to try, making sure I keep the “old favorites”.

I can’t tell you how thankful I am that I  will get to share this day with ALL my children this year.  I am so excited I’m like a little kid in a candy store.

If you would like to see what others are thankful for this week join us.

Today I am linking up to Thankful Thursdays. Feel free to join us.

Simple Pleasure and Thankfulness 4/14/11

Hello friends…..at this time of year there are so many little things on my list to be thankful for and so many little pleasures in life.  But the one I chose for today is. Old friendships.

“A friend is a gift you give yourself.”

You see this week, I met up with a girlfriend I hadn’t seen in over 15 years. Oh we have been talking about getting together for the last 3 years…yep, that’s right.  Due to schedules and life, it just never happened.  At the moment we live about 1 hour apart so we decided to meet half way in the middle.  Oh and am I glad we did. We had the best time.

It’s like we have never been apart.  We picked right up where we left off.  However, after 15+ years you know there is a lot of “catching up” to do, talking about our children….where they are all at now and what they are doing.  Plus I had one that is married, which we had to discuss.

We became friends years ago when I was living in Germany.  We had moved there when my ex was in the Navy, and she was there due to her hubby’s job. We met on the ball field.  Our sons played baseball together and we became fast friends.  Being a veteran of living overseas, and she was a “newbie”, I enjoyed helping her along.

Eventually we were in Sunday school, church, bible study together. She had such a magnetic personality, and people loved her. She was a wonderful dear Christian woman who loved the Lord and aspired to “serve him”.  I really miss those days of growth in our Christian walks.

We were together quite often..  whether at a church function or ballgame or just dinner.  We shared, cared, wiped tears, laughed, the list goes on.  However, once returning back to the states in ‘93 we got together and that was the last time I saw her….albeit we sent the Christmas cards.  So seeing her still looking as young as ever was such a treat.

She and I both are now in new marriages. What is it about men deciding after 20+ years, you aren’t worth the effort to make it work?  Oh that’s another post I am sure…. anyway, we caught up on our new marriages. Mine of 3 years and hers of just 6 months.

And we decided we would get together again soon so that our new hubby’s can meet.  Plus she and I plan to make this a once a month gift we give ourselves.  I am already looking forward to the next luncheon.

Thoughtful Living

PSALM 25:8-15

Psalm 25:8-15 (New International Version, ©2011)

8 Good and upright is the LORD;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
9 He guides the humble in what is right
   and teaches them his way.
10 All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful
toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.
11 For the sake of your name, LORD,
forgive my iniquity, though it is great.

12 Who, then, are those who fear the LORD?
He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.[a]
13 They will spend their days in prosperity,
and their descendants will inherit the land.
14 The LORD confides in those who fear him;
he makes his covenant known to them.
15 My eyes are ever on the LORD,
for only he will release my feet from the snare.

Are you living thoughtfully and intentionally—or automatically? It's so easy to get up each morning, do our work, enjoy some relaxation or entertainment, and fall into bed each night without giving any thought to God's involvement in our lives. But to be ignorant of how He has blessed, guided, protected, and warned us is a foolish way to live. Just consider the benefits of keeping our spiritual eyes and ears open throughout the day.

Those who are aware of the Lord's presence during their daily activities enjoy the peace of knowing that He is always in control and working to accomplish His good purposes. Every day's experiences with Him teach them to know and love Him more.

When we learn to see God's footprints in our days, we will become aware of the scope of His involvement in our lives. Maybe He strengthened you for a task or opened a door of opportunity. Perhaps He guided your decisions or helped you respond in a godly way to a difficult person.

If our ears are open to the Lord's warnings and instructions, we won't repeat the same mistakes again and again. But those who are deaf to His voice will continue in unhealthy thought patterns, negative emotions, and foolish responses.

Each night before you go to sleep, take some time to reflect on the day's activities. The Lord is constantly with you, guarding and guiding your way. He wants you to see Him in everything and understand life from His perspective as you rely on His wisdom and power to face any challenge.

Simple Pleasure and Gratitude 2-10-11

Today I thought I could tie them both in together….

It’s been a while since I have gotten to participate in these meme’s but I just love them both and the other ladies are so dear that I have had the opportunity to meet and share with.  I’ve been moving and getting settled since Halloween of last year so it’s good to be back.  :)

My Simple Pleasure and Gratitude today is simply REST

DSC00002   It’s wonderful to have the time to rest our bodies and know that we don’t have anything pressing that has to be done. Can you say grateful?  After several months of running and going non stop it is wonderful to be able to simply stop and rest.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”

Simple Pleasures-Reading

Happy Thursday dear friends….hope your having a great week and are enjoying this fall weather.  I am loving everything about this time of year…

Last night I spent the evening making pumpkin bread and my house smelled so yummy, the mixes of cinnamon and nutmeg and pumpkin spice filling the house was a aroma to behold.  Anyway, I could go on about that and the smells of cooking are a wonderful simple pleasure, but today the one I am really enjoying now is reading.

Amishcollage

This is my favorite…Amish Fiction, next to my bible and bible study books, this is what I enjoying reading the most.  These stories are full of family, love, faith.  Such strong family values.  Where life slows down and the real things in life that matter are tended to.

“If you think all romance novels have covers displaying a shirtless Fabio clone embracing a woman with heaving bosoms and are filled with torrid sex scenes, think again. The hottest trend right now in the romance genre is the “Amish inspirational,” which are books with chastely dressed women on the front and no sex inside. Yep, that’s right, kissing is about as racy as it gets in an Amish inspirational. But, for many readers, that’s very appealing. As a recent article in USA Today says, “In our sex-soaked society, nothing seems to inflame the imagination quite like the chaste.””

If your a reader, and you love the simple life, I highly recommensimple pleasured these books.  You will not be disappointed.

Simple Pleasure - Lighting my Candle

simple pleasure
Happy Thursday to everyone, today I am participating in Simple Pleasures with Dayle @ A Collection of This and That. I hope you will  check out the simple pleasures that others are sharing.

candle Today my Simple Pleasure is my Pumpkin Spice Candle burning in my kitchen/family room. The aromas stemming from it feel the senses with warmth and coziness.
I love the way the candle changes the mood in the house, as well as mine, something as simple as a candle can slow me.
So what is your simple pleasure today?

Thankful Thursday-Good Health

Another Thankful Thursday is upon us….and today I am extremely thankful for my health.  For the last several days I have not been healthfeeling all that well.  Not really anything bad, but just didn’t feel good, mainly upset stomach and just feeling blasé.

And this morning  I woke up feeling much better and it made me realize just how much we take for granted when we feel good.

And it gave me enough incentive today to decide to change some of my habits. Drink more water, green tea, drink less caffeine, etc… I want to feel healthy more than I want to feel tired, sick
and just not myself.  How bout you?

Today Lynn, suggested we share ten things that make you uniquely you.

  • I have a heavy southern accent
  • I share my birthday with the Marine Corp
  • I LOVE history
  • I love to watch it snow, but hate driving in it
  • I love  old black and white classics
  • If I could have done anything other than being a mom and housewife, I would have liked being a investigator
  • I'm the oldest
  • I lived in 4 other countries
  • I like to salt my apples when I eat them ( I get laughed at for this)
  • I take sugar and cream in my coffee.

So what is unique about you?
What are you thankful for today?  If you would like to join us for Thankful Thursday hosted by Lynn @Spiritually Unequal Marriage, stop in.

Is your home singing?

After a very busy Monday Morning, I am finally taking a break.

Making a home sing I’m a bit late in getting this post up, but thought I would share Making My Home Sing Monday hosted by Nan @ Mom’s the Word

I have spent the morning getting my house back in order after a weekend full of kids, cooking, and football.  Every weekend of Football season, all my kids come home (they all live away from home)either on Friday night or Saturday morning and stay until Monday when they have to go back to work, or leave late on Sunday night. Either way, it gives my house a total workout when they are all here, not to mention, mom, plus usually I they bring a significant other with them.  This weekend, I had kids sprawled out all over my house, in sleeping bags and couches, as well as my kids own rooms….but it was fun.

So this morning, I lit my pumpkin spice candle and filled my sink with hot soapy water, and started washing down my entire kitchen, cleaned my oven (I had a little mishap with a overflowing casserole this weekend), countertops, washed all my glass canisters, and moved some things around.  Then moved onto the floors, which were in dire need of a good mopping,  My major focus was on the kitchen, although the whole house got a quick pick up and dusting, and since there will not be anyone here until again until the weekend, I think I will save the sheets for Wednesday.

So what did you do to make you home sing today?

Hope your having a beautifully blessed day.
