Old Lucketts Store and Leesburg

Good Morning, My title says it all.  That was my Saturday! 

Saturday started off a big draggy, as I just didn’t  feel motivated.  However, I had some big plans for the day,  For over a month I had set a date with a old friend (no she isn’t old, we have just known each other for 20+ years) and I haven’t seen her since the Navy moved me from Germany. So it was time to reconnect.  I can’t tell you how great the visit was, it was awesome seeing her and her hubby again. They also got the opportunity to meet my new hubby. 

We had a delightful dinner at a local mill in the town where they reside.

On the way to our friends we have to go through Leesburg Va. so we took some time and made a quick visit to one of my favorite places.  Old Lucketts Store. on the way into Leesburg.  I could spend hours here, so shabby, and lots of chippy paint and lots of glitter.  Any girls dream.  I also wanted to stop in and see what MMS had.  Fortunately for my hubby, her booth was sparse.  She hadn’t refilled it for the upcoming holiday house coming up in a few weeks.  But this will give you a idea of the goodies you can find here.

Now this gives you a snippet view of some of the goodies that can be found on a regular basis, but here is a sneak peek at Marion’s @ Mustard Seed Interiors booth on the third floor. Sooooooo her.  I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her when she “housed” her goodies at the Wild Rose in Walkersville Maryland.  Believe me when I say pictures don’t do her goodies, justice.


After daydreaming here for a bit, I headed next door to The Beekeepers Cottage.   About all I can say is bling  bling and WoW!  Take a look and see if you don’t agree. And believe me this is NOTHING compared to the shop.

Ok…this gives you a idea of the eye candy I was looking at.  Simply gorgeous!

for my taste.  Love to look and get goodies but hate those big PRicETags.



And to top it off we stopped by Mom’s Apple Pie and picked up a apple pie for dessert.  YUMMO!
They have a darling little shop in Leesburg.

Busy Busy Busy Weekend

but a fun one.  Where to start. 

My weekend all started on Friday when hubby came in to inform me he wanted a new TV, 55 inches to be exact.  I said “WHaT?  Anyway, to make a long story short, we decided to spend the day Saturday in search of his perfect TV.  But before we could do that, I had a new place that I had wanted to check out.  A new “shabby, chic, vintage, wonderful, glorious store that I had read about @ Mustard Seed Creations.  It is located in a little town just about 13 miles from me  in Walkersville, Md.  It’s  called the  “Wild Rose & Co. and Marketplace”. All I can say is this place was simply  beautiful with all the goodies for sale, and the owner and ladies that are selling their goods here are just as beautiful.  And oh so talented.  I can’t wait to go back and scout out new things as they go in.  Hubby even really liked the shop and the ladies there. 

Well, anyway, since we were in the market for a new TV, we knew we were going to need something to house it, and I found what I thought was the perfect piece of furniture there.   *Note the big red cabinet…that is it, isn’t it a beautiful.  I’m in love with this piece of furniture. Anyhow, hubby wasn’t so sure, but he knew how much I loved it and wanted it, he gave me the heads up to get it.  However the practical side of me kicked in and I decided I needed to think of it.  Plus he ended up finding another piece in the shop that he liked better for the TV (which by the way he hadn’t bought yet). I know the perfect place in my house for it, but he isn’t so sure about that either.  Our space is pretty limited in this room…So what do you ladies think?  Yes, No?  I think my dream place for this piece would be in a kitchen as a island someday, but definitely not this house. 

Okay enough about my dilemma’s, we ended up finding him a TV, and not a 55 inch.  To big for the room…so we decided on a 47 inch LED and he LOVES it.

Do you know that little TV cost me two days of rearranging furniture to accommodate it,because we all know, you can’t bring something new in the house, without moving a million things around for just the right look…So last night about 10 or so, I finished up putting things back together in the family room.  What a job that was!  Now my thoughts are if I get that red cabinet, will I have to redo again?  Do I dare to think otherwise?

The older the better

Good Morning Ladies, hope your enjoying your Friday and are looking forward to a wonderful weekend.  I know I am. 

Instead of doing my weekly roundup today, I thought I would share something that I love antiques, and junk treasures.  As most of you know, if you have been reading my blog for awhile or even just surfing the pages, you realize I have a thing for things of old.

My hubby and I love to scour new “junk, um, I mean treasure ” stores, and a couple a weeks ago we found a gold mine.  I am in love with this place, it is three floors of pure heaven for a girl like me, well and my bf too. 

This is a old barn, that the owner is redoing from top to bottom all by himself.  It’s still got a ways to go, but it’s incredible inside with all the exposed beams, and new wide plank flooring. 

Look at the front of this place, all the chairs and goodies, just begging for some TLC, or maybe some paint.  {wink}

How cool is this sign, I need one like it to put on my front porch.   teehee

Loving all those old crates (my mind automatically when to the pantry remix that was done at The House of Smiths) and what about the carpenters tote there on the ground.  Lovin it, lovin it!  And all the things I could do with it.   I think hubby saw the smoke coming out of my ears, with the way my brain was working overtime.  He got me out of there quickly considering I already have several, this is what one of them looks like in my house now….btw, this is a small inventory of my rolling pins that I have been collecting for several years, and my rule of thumb is NEVER pay more than 5 bucks.  Most of them I picked up for 1 or 2 dollars. 

One of weakness is anything that has to do with a kitchen or pottery, specially some crocks.  I wanted to take them all home, unfortunately the checkbook wouldn’t allow that, nor would the space in my house.  But if…..I had a big ole farmhouse, just sayin….

I have a passion for bringing new life to old things, that are seasoned with time, and if only they could talk, the stories they could tell with the things they have seen through the years. 

I ran across this old antique cupboard (while daydreaming online one afternoon), and I fell in love with it.  Again, I am drawn to the old meeting the new.  How cool would this be to have in your house? Again, my mind started working overtime. I want this cupboard in my house….And I think it goes well with granite countertops too.  What ya think?

Saturday is finally here

and I have things to do.   The weather is suppose to be sunny and in the 60’s today so perfect weather to do a little shopping.  I have my handy dandy list in tow and gonna make some tracks today,would love to hit a few yard sales this morning if I can find  some. One of my favorite things about spring and summer are YARD SALES!

Did I ever show you some of the cool things I have gotten while “junking” as I like to call it.  It is a name that me and my bff have given this activity.  My Hoosier cabinet that I got for  40.00, love this thing!!!

Several old suitcases that I picked up for 1 and 2 dollars.  {Heart }these too .

The old typewriter and fan are both finds too.  Can’t remember what I gave for them, but had been looking for them.  Hubby bought the old camera, it came in a case with film even.  I also purchased that magnifying glass and spectacles  at yard sales.  Some day, I hope to put these little items in a library.  But for now, they are all stored away until after a move takes place.  :( Much like alot of my other treasures.

I digressed, I know.  Now where were we…..

I wish my to do list looked like this one, but I have to get out and get a wedding shower gift for my son and his fiancé s shower that is next weekend.  I am also on the hunt for the perfect pair of shoes for my dress as well as some other goodies. 

Plus my pantry is begging me to get it restocked.  Most likely will hit the grocery store while I am out and about today.  For the first time in weeks/months, I put together a menu for next week and so need to make  sure I have everything that I need.  I picked out a couple of great recipes from PW and Picky Palate.  Can’t wait to try those!   

 

I have to get as much done as possible today so that I can get home to watch my UK wildcats play Wake Forest in the second game of the NCAA series.  You will not hear me talk alot about sports on here, but I am a die hard UK Basketball fan, and so until March Madness is over, or the Wildcats are out, then you will just have to listen to me.  :)  I will try to make it pain free though.

a little thing I picked up this past week and can you say “LOVE IT”.  And for only $5.00.  That’s right.  I  was tickled pink.  Wouldn’t you be?It’s my five dollar apron.  It is so cheerful looking.  It is a vintage strawberry fabric, but it looks just like little Valentine hearts.  How cute is that?   Maybe I can a picture of me modeling it, I mean cooking in it. {teehee}.  I have been looking for some vintage aprons but they are rather expensive. Plus I want cute to boot.  Got a cute apron….I wanna see, so let me know.  I found a few online that I think are adorable.

Wow what a wonderful weekend

I had a great weekend.  Family, great food, and great friends, who could ask for more than that, right?  My stepson and dil came into town late on Friday evening and it was great to see them.  We got to catch up with all that is going on with them.  They are the cutest little couple.  Unfortunately because of the distance we don’t get to see Michael’s children as often as we would like, so when we do, it is such a blessing and treat.

On Saturday, they had things they needed to do.  They actually came up here to buy a car.  So they had to scoot off to the dealership and hubby had to finish up some work at the office, so I headed into town to get my nails done and run a few errands, it was a nice morning, the sun was shining and it was picture perfect.  Once I finished with all my errands, I headed back home to rest before everyone got back home.  Little did I know that my hubby had planned a surprise birthday dinner for me.  (My birthday is Tuesday) So needless to say I was shocked when everyone started rolling in.  Glad I got that nap in.  :)  We had a Mexican fiesta, everything he made was scrumptious.  Everyone loved the food and had a great time. 

Sunday was a day of relaxing for me…I watched some football with my son for a bit and took another nap.  Spent some time reading and just hanging out with them.  The weather here was awesome, and so hubby worked in the yard.  Thinking that today, I should get out there and do some weeding in the flower beds and pots. 

I have been reading my blogroll this morning and I am so inspired to get to work on some projects, but think I had better make out a list if I want to get anything accomplished.  But it looks like today is going to be busy, busy, busy…so guess if I want to get anything done, I need to head off here and get at it.
